My 92Y Conversation on Engagement Rings with Christopher Young and Benjamin Zucker
Myths were busted

Just in time for the long holiday weekend, the 92nd Street Y has posted the video of the conversation I had a couple weeks ago with two of my favorite experts, Tiffany’s Christopher Young and diamond historian Benjamin Zucker.
Our talk sprang up and off the pages of my book, The History of Diamond Engagement Rings: True Romance. Over the course of an hour, we debunked myths such as the fallacy that there was a first diamond engagement ring or that De Beers invented the tradition.
The context was set for key developments in diamond engagement rings, such as the invention of the Tiffany Setting during the Gilded Age. We also explained why and when the 4Cs were conceived in the 1930s. Rings in Renaissance portraits were analyzed among many other things. It was also a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy it.
